The Sky people lived in the Ark, which is a satellite revolving around Earth. These people are genetically immune to high intense levels of solar radiation, which will become an advantage when they settle on Earth. Punishments for criminal actions usually are "floating". "Floating" is when a person is sent out into space without protective gear, which causes them to die. (But hey, it's not that bad right? Right?!) The 100 are Sky people, the main characters. |
Grounders are humans who survived the radiation on Earth. These people possess an advantage just like the Sky people. These advantageous traits are the result of "survival of the fittest", which will be an important weapon. (Hint hint.) They have their own Grounder language and many of their actions are deeply rooted in faith and spirituality. The Grounders do not choose their leaders: they believe in reincarnation and the spirit of the previous leader will pick someone worthy. Some of their actions are portrayed as violent. Many Grounders have some kind of face tattoo/painting. In the beginning of the story, Sky people and Grounders have fought but they have a common enemy: the Mountain Men. |
Mountain Men are also human but they escaped the harmful radiation by hiding in Mount Weather. Because of this, they are not genetically fit for the radiation. The Mountain Men have much more "advanced" technology compared to the Grounders and the Sky people. They grow their foods in hydroponic gardens and have a fully functioning medical center. However, their means of becoming less susceptible to the harmful radiation is controversial. (Ooohhh what is it? Well you'll have to see to find out!) |

I really enjoy this show because of how complex the characters are. In the beginning I had an aversion o a certain character but over time I started to understand that character's motivations. Vice versa. A character you may adore can possibly break your heart. The show really challenges morality. Sometimes heroic actions are bad. Killing may be good.
This show started in 2014 and currently has 4 seasons. Each season has around 13-16 episodes of 40 minutes. Honestly, watching this show doesn't seem like a chore. Some shows make the episodes seem very long. This show makes time fly by. I would highly recommend this show to everyone! The 100 is available on the CW and is available on Netflix.

The first family of vampires, the Mikaelsons, have lived for over a thousand years. The mother was a witch who wanted to reunite and revive her family to live together forever. Unlike most vampires, a stake in the heart and vervain won't harm or kill them. Instead a white oak stake is needed. Settling down in the French Quarters of Louisiana, three of the Mikaelsons--Klaus, Elijah, and Rebecca-- encounter an old friend while maintaining animosity towards the Bayou werewolves. Will the Mikaelsons be able to survive and unite as a family once again?
This show is a spin-off of the show The Vampire Diaries. (If you would like a review of the Vampire Diaries, let me know in the comments below and/or email me.) Unlike the Vampire Diaries, this show delves into the history of the Mikaelson family and the origins of the vampire history.

Most of the characters are vampires. Elijah and Rebecca are vampires. Their other brothers--Finn and Kol-- are vampires also, but not as involved in the story. The original vampires and regular vampires can turn humans into vampires by delivering their own blood into the victim's bloodstream. Original vampires can control their appetite. Regular vampires, however, have a harder time doing so and will go crazy in order to have a sip of human blood. |
Witches are played throughout the story. in the Vampire Diaries, Bonnie was the only witch. However, in Louisiana there is a large coven of witches. in the picture, Davina is a powerful witch. Witches can be both women and men, but they are mostly women. (Fun fact: the actress who played Davina went to the same high school as I am currently attending!) |
When there are vampires, there have to be werewolves. These werewolves turn when they killed their first human while they are in human form. Werewolves run in the family unlike vampires where someone needs to get bitten. The transformation is very painful, especially the first time. Werewolves eat human meat and cannot stand wolfsbane, similar to a vampire's vervain. A werewolf has a special advantage against a vampire: a werewolf bite is extremely lethal to a vampire. |
Finally there is the hybrid. A hybrid is a mix of vampire and werewolf. His mother cheated on Mikael and had an affair with a local werewolf. Klaus is naturally born as a werewolf, but was turned into a vampire along with his family. That makes Klaus the first hybrid. He produced an army of hybrids himself by injecting vampire blood into existing werewolves. It's not possible for a vampire to become a hybrid because it needs the werewolf gene. |
Which creature in the Originals world would you be: vampire, werewolf, witch, hybrid, or human? Let me know in the comments below!
in my opinion, I prefer this show over the Vampire Diaries. There's too much love drama between the characters in the Vampire Diaries. In the Originals, the love story is clearer and focuses on family drama. Family drama is always fun to watch because siblings resent each other but they still love each other in the end.
This show is not at all like Twilight. (Twilight is a terrible book and movie. I would not recommend or post anything that resemble Twilight.) The theme of family is highly prevalent throughout the show. After all, the show is about the Mikaelson family. Themes of loyalty and desire also recur throughout the show. This show has references to sex and violence is graphic. I would rate this 4.7/5 because although the show is well written, some of the character's decisions are poor and repetitive.
There are currently 3 seasons and the 4th season is coming out this year. Each episode is 40 minutes and the show can be watched on CW and is available on Netflix.

Sam and Dean Winchester live in Lawrence, Kansas with their parents in 1983. John Winchester, the boys' father, finds his wife Mary Winchester, pinned against the ceiling, burning. He tells 4 year old Dean, to carry 6 month old Sam outside. The show begins 22 years later when Dean visits Sam at Stanford to find their missing dad. Will they seek revenge on whatever supernatural entity that killed their mother?
Sam and Dean Winchester hunt and kill monsters from a myriad of mythologies, urban legends, and magic. Many of them include vampires, werewolves, shape shifters, ghosts, and anything that goes bump in the night. (What I think is interesting is that in every form of media, vampires are killed differently: vampires die from exposed sunlight in cartoons, a white oak stake in The Originals, and decapitation in Supernatural.)
During the more recent seasons, the story mostly alludes to figures in Christianity. The apocalypse is coming and the archangels Lucifer and Michael are ready to fight again while the Leviathans, God’s first creatures, wish to purify the earth. Even as a Christian myself, I did not even know there was an apocalypse mentioned in the Bible. Maybe that's just me. I don't think my Sunday school teachers taught me about this.

I think what make this show appealing to the public is because of the monsters and the growing relationship between the Winchester boys and the people they meet on the road. Most people are interested or at least curious about the supernatural influences in history. As for me, the show is satisfying because I know how to kill and I don't have to be afraid. if the lights flicker, I'll have my packet of salt, the Holy Bible and my water bottle, a spray bottle to draw a pentagram, and the words to Latin incantation and exorcism ready. Just kidding. But for real.
The Supernatural fandom is pretty crazy. I personally do not have a Tumblr account (yet) but I know that Supernatural fans have a GIF for every situation. See below:

I enjoy the weirdest lines and episodes that creator Eric Kripke has implemented. My favorite episode has to be "The French Mistake". It's about the two brothers entering another dimension where their lives are a show and played by two guys named Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles. The irony is wonderful. I think Supernatural is the only show where the creator of the show gets killed. Spoilers.
Each episode is about 40 minutes long. Supernatural began in 2005 and is currently airing its 12th season. This show is not recommended for those who are sensitive to graphic violence and/or images of the creepy unknown. This show is recommended for people of ages 13 or older because of references to language, sex, drinking, and violence. However, it does dive into the themes of family, integrity, and love. Supernatural is on CW and TNT networks and is available to watch on Netflix.
