Hi everyone! This is my first blog post about web series! I usually write about traditional TV shows that appear on actual TV, but I thought I would share this with you! Web series are similar to TV shows, as they regularly post episodes. I hope you enjoy this as much as I do. If you would like more posts similar to this, please let me know in the comments below! Happy binging!
This web series is based on the story of Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen in the modern day. Elizabeth "Lizzie" Bennet is a graduate student who majors in mass communications is forever annoyed by her mother's attempts to find a husband for her. She and two sisters, Jane and Lydia, meet Bing Lee, William Darcy, Ricky Collins, and George Wickham along with Lizzie's best friend Charlotte Lu as they face hardships, scandalous intentions, and unexpected romances.
Call me nerdy, but I love classic novels. Pride and Prejudice was the first classic novel I ever read and it still is one of my favorite stories. (Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte is my favorite book, just in case if you were wondering.) Okay, it is a romance story, but it's acclaimed for a reason! It's not your ordinary romance novel. It's a better love story than Twilight. (To be honest, every love story is a better love story than Twilight.)

It's a better love story than Twilight. (To be honest, every love story is a better love story than Twilight.)
This is Elizabeth "Lizzie" Bennet. She's your cool older sister who is really responsible. As the middle child, she has to deal with her younger sister Lydia and try to be more like her sister Jane. She totally a book nerd and loves to rant about her daily affairs by documenting them with videos. She recalls the events that happened by playing theater with costumes and impressions of her friends and enemies. |
This is Charlotte Lu. (She is based off of Charlotte Lucas, Elizabeth's best friend.) She is the same age as Lizzie and edits her videos. When Charlotte isn't helping Lizzie with the videos, she works with Ricky Collins at Collins&Collins, despite Lizzie's opposition. She has a younger sister named Maria Lu. |
This is Jane Bennet. She is the sweetest girl ever and loves Pinterest boards and tea. Jane is the oldest sister in the Bennet family and has a crush on Bing Lee, the man who also happens to be the one her mom wants her daughters to have. Although she is quiet and shy, she can be outspoken and have strong opinions. |
This is Lydia Bennet. She's cool. She's quirky. She's all about the adorbs. (In this adaptation, Lydia is 20 years old instead of 15 years old, which makes the modern day version more realistic.) As the youngest child, she is rebellious and loves to party. Despite all that extroversion, Lydia is a down-to-earth girl who loves her sisters. |
Bing Lee is the rich, single, (and hot) medical student at Netherfield. (He's the modern version of Mr. Bingley... you see what the writers did there?) He falls in love with Jane Bennet but his sister Caroline gets in the way to prevent that from happening because unlike the Lee family, the Bennets are not as well-off. |
Caroline Lee is based off of Caroline Bingley and is the mean girl. She gets envious of her brother's romance and affection with Jane Bennet so much that she tries to drive the two apart. Caroline tries to be close friends with Lizzie while she's filming her vlogs. But she tries to pry on Lizzie's life after William Darcy gives Lizzie a heart felt letter. |
Meet William Darcy. He is a robot. Not a literal robot, though. He's seen as stiff, proper, and prideful in the eyes of Lizzie. She hates him so much that she reenacts most of her "playing theater" skits with him wearing a red bow tie and a beret. Despite all that, Darcy is actually a sweetheart and somehow falls for Lizzie. (Dun dun dun....) |
This is Ricky Collins--or he would like to call himself "Mr. Collins". He is Lizzie's childhood friend and talks a tad bit too formally. (In the original story, Mr. Collins proposes to Elizabeth but she rejects him. He then proceeds to ask Charlotte and she agrees.) In the modern version, he asks Lizzie to work for his company: Collins&Collins. After Lizzie rejects the offer (despite offering a handsome salary), Charlotte takes the job. |
This is George Wickham. You may think: "Wow this guy is really fine!" Yes, he is. (In the original story, Wickham is a soldier who captivates Elizabeth's attention and runs off with Lydia.) In this story, Wickham and Darcy have a feud. It's more like a family feud. With the two resenting each other, Wickham takes advantage of Lydia. I have to say that Wickham is a bad man. Too bad he's good looking and a swim coach. |

Since this story is based on a classic novel, some people may not enjoy or understand the allure. I recommend this to everyone! It's such a great spin on a classic novel! This truly is a great web series and it made me laugh and cry throughout the whole series. The web series is complete and you can watch the entire playlist on Youtube.

Living in the suburbs of Santa Clarita, California, Sheila and Joel Hammond are real estate agents with a teenage daughter. Life seems fairly easy and sunny until Sheila chokes up her heart and turns into a zombie.
This show is a Netflix original and currently there is only one season with 10 episodes. (Since this show only has 1 season, this review is shorter than my usual reviews.) While a show about zombies, such as The Walking Dead, are ominous and gruesome, this show plays on a lighter side. The show turns dark as soon as Sheila becomes a zombie. Her neighbors are in law enforcement and one of them is genuinely creepy. (That neighbor is secretly a cop but is involved in the black market.)
While the show primarily focuses on the Hammond couple, the focus also shifts to their daughter, Abby, and the boy next door, Eric. The teens figure out a way to feed Sheila and keep her sane while Eric has a passionate crush on Abby.
Watching this show certainly has made me think differently. What if I died? There are activities and experiences that I want to enjoy in life. Sheila is undead and she's living her best life, despite killing people for food. Each episode flies by when I was watching this on Netflix so the content is easy for the viewer to digest. (No pun intended.)

Would you like to try the Santa Clarita Diet? Let me know in the comments below!
I enjoy this show. It's funny how Sheila tries to live life better while keeping her cover as a zombie. (One time, she and her friends walk and gossip about fitness. Sheila looks so much better and credits her new diet. Her friends ask, "What do you eat?" "Protein." she replied. "How much?" "All of them.")
The graphics are a bit gruesome but they're obvious. Images of human flesh seem like the fake toys you find in the Halloween aisle. These images may be disturbing to those who are queasy. i would rate this 4.5/5 because some of the episodes are cringe worthy. (Even thinking of some scenes make me cringe.) I don't recommend this show for those who want to invest their time in watching a good show. This show is great for those who are bored or just want to watch something. Each episode is 40 minutes long and is available only on Netflix.

Eddie Huang, a young Chinese-American boy, lives in 1995 Orlando after his family decided to move from Washington, D.C. His parents, Louis and Jessica, are two eccentric people, trying to fit in this "white" society while retaining their Asian backgrounds. Eddie has two younger brothers who are the stereotypical high-achieving kids. With these two seemingly different words, are the Huangs able to keep their cultural heritage while living in Orlando?
This is a really funny show, especially if you are Asian. (I'm not saying that non-Asians can't enjoy the show.) This show is based off a memoir that the real Eddie Huang wrote. He wrote the book in 2013 about his life growing up as an Asian. This show is extremely relatable. As an Asian myself, I get a kick out of it because there are so many references and situations that I recognize. For example, when a supermarket employee asks Jessica Huang if she would like a sample, Jessica takes the whole sample tray because it is free. That is similar to what my dad does all the time! (My family goes to Costco and Costco has so many sample stations. He likes to chat with the employees and get a sample every time he passes the corner.)

Is representation in the media improving? Do these kind of shows correctly portray POC (people of color)? Let me know in the comments below!
What i like about this show is that the cast is very diverse. Other movies are dubbed as "diverse" if one or two POC are included. Asians are the least represented in media and almost always play nerds. Eddie, however, wants to get a rapper and loves hip-hop. Louis opens up an American BBQ restaurant called Cattleman's Ranch. By writing more shows similar to Fresh Off the Boat, there will be more acceptance of Asians going into the entertainment industry.
This show is for everyone and there is (barely) no swear words. Fresh Off the Boat started in 2015 and currently there are three season. Each episode is 20 minutes and is available on ABC.

A giant orange sofa at Central Perk cafe invites six friends-- Monica and Ross Geller, Rachel Green, Chandler Bing, Phoebe Buffay, and Joey Tribbiani--to chat about their comedic lives. During the 10 years of the show, the friends experience hardships, celebrates, surprising pregnancies, and love.
This is not your typical sit-com show. This show is absolutely amazing! Everyone should see at least one season of this show. The characters are so vibrant and they make you feel like you are part of their friend group.

Rachel Green is a shopaholic who left a man at the altar. After being adjusted to the high life, she learns how to work for herself by starting as a waitress at Central Perk. She's funny, cute, and a lovable person. |
Rachel runs into Monica Geller, her high school friend, whose dream is to become a professional chef because of her love of food. Monica Geller is the definition of a "glo-up". She used to be extremely overweight, but she eventually became fit. (Why? You'll have to watch the show to find out.) She a Type A person. She cares about her china plates, loves to clean, insists on using a coaster to prevent the condensation on the coffee table, and etc.
Her brother, Ross Geller, is an paleontologist who has a crush on Rachel ever since the ninth grade. We realize a huge mistake early on in the show that he married a lesbian named Carol. He is crazy about dinosaurs and will fight those who will throw away his moist turkey sandwich. |
Chandler Bing, the sarcastic friend (who we still do not know what he does for a living exactly), is Ross's college friend. He is in a complicated relationship with Janice, a woman who has a horse-like laugh and a nasally voice.
Joey Tribbiani is the lovable, naive womanizer who loves acting. He is the only son in his family of of many Italian children. Joey may seem familiar because he plays Dr. Drake Ramoray on Days of Our Lives. Don't forget to watch him try "smell-the-fart" acting! |
Phoebe Buffay is a quirky vegan and works as a masseuse. She rants about depressing topics in a enthusiastic, yet not sarcastic, tone about her suicidal mom and her evil twin named Ursula. You can always find her singing her infamous "Smelly Cat" off-key at Central Perk. |
Which Friends character do you relate to the most? What's your favorite Friends quote? Let me know in the comments below!
I would recommend this show to everyone! This is a classic and watching this series over and over again won't fail to make you laugh and/or cry. Some of the best episodes (in my opinion) are the Thanksgiving ones and the finales. The finales are extremely well done and leave the audience with a steep cliffhanger.
The show started in 1994 and ended in 2004, producing 10 seasons of goodness. Each episode is about 20 minutes long. It is possible to watch 10 years worth of television in one week. Trust me, I tried it. Now, don't judge me. (I finished the entire show during Spring Break. It took a lot of work: 8 hours of dedicated work.)
This show is available on Netflix and re-runs may be on any late night show.
