Rachel Green is a shopaholic who left a man at the altar. After being adjusted to the high life, she learns how to work for herself by starting as a waitress at Central Perk. She's funny, cute, and a lovable person. |
Rachel runs into Monica Geller, her high school friend, whose dream is to become a professional chef because of her love of food. Monica Geller is the definition of a "glo-up". She used to be extremely overweight, but she eventually became fit. (Why? You'll have to watch the show to find out.) She a Type A person. She cares about her china plates, loves to clean, insists on using a coaster to prevent the condensation on the coffee table, and etc.
Her brother, Ross Geller, is an paleontologist who has a crush on Rachel ever since the ninth grade. We realize a huge mistake early on in the show that he married a lesbian named Carol. He is crazy about dinosaurs and will fight those who will throw away his moist turkey sandwich. |
Chandler Bing, the sarcastic friend (who we still do not know what he does for a living exactly), is Ross's college friend. He is in a complicated relationship with Janice, a woman who has a horse-like laugh and a nasally voice.
Joey Tribbiani is the lovable, naive womanizer who loves acting. He is the only son in his family of of many Italian children. Joey may seem familiar because he plays Dr. Drake Ramoray on Days of Our Lives. Don't forget to watch him try "smell-the-fart" acting! |
Phoebe Buffay is a quirky vegan and works as a masseuse. She rants about depressing topics in a enthusiastic, yet not sarcastic, tone about her suicidal mom and her evil twin named Ursula. You can always find her singing her infamous "Smelly Cat" off-key at Central Perk. |

I would recommend this show to everyone! This is a classic and watching this series over and over again won't fail to make you laugh and/or cry. Some of the best episodes (in my opinion) are the Thanksgiving ones and the finales. The finales are extremely well done and leave the audience with a steep cliffhanger.
The show started in 1994 and ended in 2004, producing 10 seasons of goodness. Each episode is about 20 minutes long. It is possible to watch 10 years worth of television in one week. Trust me, I tried it. Now, don't judge me. (I finished the entire show during Spring Break. It took a lot of work: 8 hours of dedicated work.)
This show is available on Netflix and re-runs may be on any late night show.

The Doctor, the Timelord, is the last one of his kind from the planet Gallifrey. He and his companion must travel through time and space in the TARDIS (Time and Relative Dimensions in Space) to save the galaxy from the villains of the universe.
Doctor Who? That is a question that won't be answered because we do not know the Doctor's real name. He gave himself that name as a promise for him. What promise? We know that he promised himself after the Last Time War between the Timelords and Daleks-- aliens that are the exact definition of hate with a plunger that suctions to kill.
So what exactly are Timelords? Well, they're aliens. They look like humans. Timelords all come from Gallifrey and have two hearts. Yup. They also regenerate; they die and endure a painful regeneration into another face, but the still the same person. (Fun fact: this idea was added when William Hartnell, the 1st Doctor, was aging and the producers of the show wanted to continue the program.) So instead of mourning the end of the Doctor's life, we can all hope for his new face! (I know that sounds weird.) Each time he regenerates, he takes a younger form.

Which Doctor is your favorite? If you were one of his companions, who would you be? Let me know in the comments!
I really enjoy this show because of the magnificent visuals that the show provides. Who wouldn't want to be the Doctor's companion and travel around space and time? The villains are extraordinary. Daleks look like bulby-ish machines with a toilet plunger. There are so many other villains, such as Cyberman, Weeping Angel, Ood, creepy French dolls, the Master and more!
I would recommend this show to everyone! There may be some villains that seem disturbing for some people, but overall I would say that this show is more family friendly. This show is timeless. I have re-watched the episodes and the show still retains its spark. The best episodes have to be the Christmas specials. There is something about British people and their Christmases...
The show started on November 22, 1963 but had a 16 year hiatus. The new series started in 2005 with the 9th Doctor. There are themes of companionship, loyalty, and integrity. There may be some episodes of Classic Who but they may be harder to find. However, starting with the new series won't confuse you. Series 1 with the 9th Doctor is enjoyable but not as great as the other series.

Sherlock Holmes, the self-proclaimed highly functioning sociopath, finds himself teamed up with Dr. John Watson, the army doctor who served in Afghanistan. It's the modernized version of the classic story by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. With Sherlock's and John's skills, the truths they discover may be hard to swallow.
Sherlock Holmes and Dr. John Watson live in modern day London at their apartment on 221B Baker Street, owned by their landlady Mrs. Hudson. (I really like how the show did not neglect the secondary characters, such as Mary (Mrs.) Watson. Even these characters have interesting history and plots, especially in the more recent seasons.)
The names of the episodes are allusions to Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's short stories; the original titles of the stories serve as the basis of the stories. For example, the original story of Study in Scarlet is redone as "Study in Pink" and Reichenbach Fall alludes to the original ending of Holmes and Moriarty jumping to their deaths. I think this idea is genius because I can find the original story and compare it to the episode to see how director Steven Moffat interpreted the stories.
I really enjoy this show because the show zooms in on Sherlock's "mind palace". What is a mind palace? Well, a mind palace is where a person can search up information and swipe, rearrange, and cut information, but all of this happens in the mind. It is similar to making a Google Document and making edits and searching for sources. The show makes me think differently and Sherlock's observational skills are impressive. I think almost everyone would like to have a "mind palace". It's better than photographic memory. This talent would be very useful when taking tests, right?

What also makes this show so captivating is the cast. Benedict Cumberbatch obviously is a great actor and has nice cheekbones, or as Irene Adler would say: "Oh, look at those cheekbones. I could cut myself slapping that face. Would you like me to try?" Martin Freeman has the best facial expressions of all time. He represents the John in all of us when we deal with a friend like Sherlock. Andrew Scott plays Jim Moriarty. His Moriarty voice is nasally and fun to imitate. All these characters have their quirks.
I think another reason why this show is adored by so many is the adventures that Sherlock and John go on and the friendship between them. Many fans have dubbed the two as "Johnlock" and so many have drawn NSFW fan art. I don't oppose the OTP of john and Sherlock, Yep, some fangirls are extremely crazy. A Superwholock myself (a fan of Supernatural, Doctor Who, and Sherlock), I think those fans have gone too far. Especially with pictures comparing Sherlock to an otter and John to a hedgehog. (Pictures can be seen below.) Exactly.

I would recommend this show especially to patient people. Each season comes out every 2 years, BUT has 3 episodes of 90 minutes each. Each episode is crafted carefully and with quality writing. So, all that waiting is worth it. Currently there are 4 seasons and the 3rd episode of season 4 may be the last one of the series, but it depends on Steven Moffat. The show has references to language and use of alcohol and drugs. Many of the themes contain relatively morbid elements. There is little on-screen violence.
This show has a special place in my heart, but I have to rate it 4.9/5 because of the period of time fans have to wait. The show is available on BBC One, BBC America, PBS, and Netflix.

Sam and Dean Winchester live in Lawrence, Kansas with their parents in 1983. John Winchester, the boys' father, finds his wife Mary Winchester, pinned against the ceiling, burning. He tells 4 year old Dean, to carry 6 month old Sam outside. The show begins 22 years later when Dean visits Sam at Stanford to find their missing dad. Will they seek revenge on whatever supernatural entity that killed their mother?
Sam and Dean Winchester hunt and kill monsters from a myriad of mythologies, urban legends, and magic. Many of them include vampires, werewolves, shape shifters, ghosts, and anything that goes bump in the night. (What I think is interesting is that in every form of media, vampires are killed differently: vampires die from exposed sunlight in cartoons, a white oak stake in The Originals, and decapitation in Supernatural.)
During the more recent seasons, the story mostly alludes to figures in Christianity. The apocalypse is coming and the archangels Lucifer and Michael are ready to fight again while the Leviathans, God’s first creatures, wish to purify the earth. Even as a Christian myself, I did not even know there was an apocalypse mentioned in the Bible. Maybe that's just me. I don't think my Sunday school teachers taught me about this.

I think what make this show appealing to the public is because of the monsters and the growing relationship between the Winchester boys and the people they meet on the road. Most people are interested or at least curious about the supernatural influences in history. As for me, the show is satisfying because I know how to kill and I don't have to be afraid. if the lights flicker, I'll have my packet of salt, the Holy Bible and my water bottle, a spray bottle to draw a pentagram, and the words to Latin incantation and exorcism ready. Just kidding. But for real.
The Supernatural fandom is pretty crazy. I personally do not have a Tumblr account (yet) but I know that Supernatural fans have a GIF for every situation. See below:

I enjoy the weirdest lines and episodes that creator Eric Kripke has implemented. My favorite episode has to be "The French Mistake". It's about the two brothers entering another dimension where their lives are a show and played by two guys named Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles. The irony is wonderful. I think Supernatural is the only show where the creator of the show gets killed. Spoilers.
Each episode is about 40 minutes long. Supernatural began in 2005 and is currently airing its 12th season. This show is not recommended for those who are sensitive to graphic violence and/or images of the creepy unknown. This show is recommended for people of ages 13 or older because of references to language, sex, drinking, and violence. However, it does dive into the themes of family, integrity, and love. Supernatural is on CW and TNT networks and is available to watch on Netflix.
